As a\nnon-participating provider, you have even more complications to contend with,\nbut by taking the time to better understand these policies, you can help\nminimize your patients\u2019 out of pocket costs for sleep apnea appliances. In this\npost, we\u2019ll walk through the answers to some of those questions we hear most\noften from dentists who are new to the Medicare billing and claims process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Do I have to Make PECOS-Approved Devices? <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even if you\u2019re non-participating provider, your oral\nappliances still need to be approved by the Provider Enrollment, Chain and\nOwnership System (PECOS) in order for your patients to receive coverage from Medicare.\nThis means that the device, manufacturer, and materials used will all be held\nto standards that are often higher than those required by the FDA. If you opt\nout of accepting Medicare coverage or your patient opts to forego benefits through\nMedicare, you can revert to using appliances that only meet the FDA\nrequirements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Would this be Different if I Accept Assignment on Individual Claims? <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The only difference is that only your Medicare covered\npatients will have to receive a PECOS approved appliance.
